INTRODUCTION
The land offered for sale was formerly part of Charvil Farm,
Sonning,
Berkshire which had been bought by The Sonning Land Company Ltd.,
controlled
by the vendors' family, in 1924. Much of the land was sold by
The Sonning
Land Company Ltd. in the years before World War II, but the valuable
riverside grazing land was retained and has been actively farmed
by the
Vendors since 1955, now trading as The Sonning Farm Company.
The vendors wish to concentrate in the future on their farming
activities at
Cadmore End near High Wycombe and have therefore taken the decision
to sell
their land in Berkshire.
GENERAL INFORMATION
DIRECTIONS
From Reading, follow the A4 towards Maidenhead. At the roundabout
with the
B478 to Sonning at the end of the dual carriageway proceed straight
across
towards Charvil. To access Lots 2-8 take the first left-hand
exit shortly
after the roundabout. Continue around to the right after a short
distance
and then turn left down Milestone Avenue which initially is an
unmade road.
Continue for approximately 1 mile. The road becomes tarmac, turns
around a
90º bend and then goes over a metal bridge (with an 18 tonne
weight limit)
into Thames Drive. Thames Drive (Lot 8) can be found immediately
after the
bridge and the land is on the right after the bridge running
north.
In order to access Lot 1 and 9 continue along the A4 from the
roundabout and
after about 0.6 mile turn left along a single track tarmac road
- Loddon
Drive. Proceed approximately 0.8 mile along Loddon Drive and
over a steel
girder bridge which crosses St. Patrick's Stream (weight limit
15 tonnes).
The access gate onto the right of way leading to Lot 1 is on
the left
immediately before a brick hump back bridge known as Borough
Bridge.
The sections of Loddon Drive offered as Lot 9 all lie between
the steel
girder bridge over St. Patrick's Stream and the far side of Bridgman's
Bridge over the river Loddon, a detailed plan of which is available
from the
Agents.
Coming from Maidenhead along the A4 continue to the roundabout
crossing the
A321 running from Twyford to Wargrave. Proceed straight over
the roundabout.
To access Lots 1 and 9, after approximately ≤ mile turn right
along a single
track tarmac road (which is not marked) - Loddon Drive. Follow
directions as
above. To access Lots 2-8, continue along the A4 until the next
roundabout
meeting the B478 to Charvil. Go around the roundabout and back
onto the A4.

EU attacks Brown's 'excessive' borrowing
The chancellor has been criticised for his "excessive" spending
and
borrowing position.
The European Commission has warned Gordon Brown that he must
rein in his
borrowing over the coming year.
The chancellor faced embarrassment on Wednesday when the European
Commission
declared an 'excessive deficit procedure' for the government's
failure to
keep down public borrowing.
Brown is being told that he should reduce borrowing to below
three per cent
of GDP - the limit imposed by the European stability and growth
pact.
Whilst he is not the worst offender in Europe, Brown was highlighted
as
being among the offending economic ministers.
"Although the UK budgetary
position is less worrying than that of others in
the EU... the commission recommends that the UK deficit be declared
excessive and the UK asked to correct the situation," economic
and monetary
affairs commissioner Joaquin Almunia said.
The chancellor's spending is set to exceed the limit for four
successive
years and he could be forced to shave £6bn off his spending
plans if he is
to meet the commission's target.
Whilst the UK is not a member of the European single currency,
it is meant
to abide by the rules laid down by the pact.
Fiscal rules
However the Treasury appeared unmoved by the Brussels criticism.
"The UK continues to
have the lowest average debts and deficits of any other
major European economy and, as the government set out in the
pre-Budget
report last month, we continue to meet our fiscal rules over
the cycle with
the public finances sustainable and increases in public investment
fully
affordable," said a spokesman.
"This year we expect
to have a treaty deficit of three per cent, falling to
2.7 per cent next, and to 1.5 per cent by 2010.
"The government's projections
are therefore fully consistent with a prudent
interpretation of the stability and growth pact."
British sources also point to methodological differences which
mean that
Brussels over-estimates the levels of UK borrowing and emphasised
that the
target is not binding on member states outside the single currency.
Unprecedented
Brown has been forced to raise borrowing as a result of increased
public
spending and a reduced tax return resulting from lower than anticipated
economic growth.
This is the first time the commission has instituted censure
proceedings
against the UK and finance ministers could vote to urge Brown
to reduce
spending.
Shadow chancellor George Osborne said Brown should stop lecturing
Brussels
and focus on his own failures.
"The commission have
joined the chorus of international institutions
chastising Brown for his poor handling of the public finances," he
said.
"The budget deficit this year is Œexcessive‚ and
they predict the damaging
budgetary situation to continue for the foreseeable future. And
it is hard
working families who will have to pay for it with taxes rises.
"Gordon Brown has been
forever lecturing Europe on how to manage its
economy.
"But after a year in
which Brown fiddled the fiscal rules, missed his growth
forecast and saw public borrowing grow out of control, now it's
the European
Commission who is lecturing Brown on how to manage the public
finances."
Last Plot
